Wykham Park student, Imi Watts, has received some excellent news after securing a place in Oxford County’s under-13s cricket team. Check out Imi’s story below!
Hi, my name is Imi Watts and I go to Wykham Park Academy. I have played for Cropredy Cricket Club since the age of 7. Last year my Coach put me forward for the Oxfordshire County Cricket trials. My family and I were very proud and excited.
In September 2022 I started my trials. Once I had signed up for stage 1, every Sunday I would go to a school in Abingdon to try out. After a few weeks of the trials my Dad got an email saying I had been selected to continue into stage 2, I was very happy yet still nervous.
Whilst still training for Cropredy the trial process went on for 3 stages, each stage doubling in weeks and the standard grew. After 6 long weeks I had made it through to stage 3. I couldn’t be happier!
Stage 3 was the hardest yet, there were festival days against other teams. It was really nerve racking. The festival was over 2 days, with 2 matches per day. These festival days were very tiring and long too. After 2 weeks I was on my way to a match at Cropredy, when my Dad got the email that after cutting over 30 players I had been selected to play in the U13’s Oxfordshire County team.
Everybody here, across the Aspirations’ Trust, are immensely proud of Imi and her fantastic achievement. Well done Imi!
