What are we studying?
YEAR 10
This course will give you the opportunity to develop knowledge and technical skills in a practical learning environment. You will also develop key skills through vocational contexts, by exploring the aims of different travel and tourism organisations, the features of tourist destinations, how organisations meet customer requirements, and the influences on global travel and tourism.
TERM 1 and 2
Component 1: Travel and Tourism Organisations and Destinations. In this component, you will investigate travel and tourism organisations, their aims and how they work together. You will explore types of travel and tourism, the features that make destinations appealing to visitors and different travel routes.
TERM 3 and 4
Component 1: Non-exam internal assessment set by Pearson (mock) followed by Component 1: Non-exam internal assessment set by Pearson and marked by centre.
TERM 5 and 6
Component 2: Customer Needs in Travel and Tourism. In this component, you will investigate how organisations use market research to identify travel and tourism trends, and customer needs and preferences. You will apply your understanding by selecting products and services and planning a holiday to meet customer needs and preferences.
OTHER INFORMATION
Students develop their research skills and independent learning skills as well as an understanding of how the travel and tourism sector works. In the third term students will complete their first piece of internal assessment which will go towards their BTEC accreditation.
YEAR 11
The Travel and Tourism sector in the UK and internationally, and the impact of customer service.
TERM 1
Students investigate the appeal of international travel and tourism destinations to different types of visitor. Students create a mini brochure that explains the appeal of one European and one worldwide destination to two different visitor types. They research local attractions and accommodation, as well as looking at natural and cultural features.
TERM 2
Students plan two different holidays, one in Europe and one somewhere else in the world. They put together an itinerary and research accommodation, transport and potential activities appropriate for the type of visitor. Students have to explain how their holiday itinerary meets the needs of their visitor type.
TERM 3
Students investigate customer service in the travel and tourism industry. Students will look at different travel and tourism organisations and describe the main aims of customer service. They will also compare the customer service in different organisations, as this will help them evaluate how strong customer service is the different organisations.
TERM 4
Students explain how different travel and tourism organisations respond to customer needs and exceed their expectations. They then evaluate the success of the different organisations.
TERM 5
Students compare the impact of excellent and poor customer service on different travel and tourism organisations. They then recommend and justify improvements to poor customer service for a particular organisation.
TERM 6
Students need to complete any resubmission work that is required. All students receive one opportunity to resubmit their assignments.
OTHER INFORMATION
Throughout Year 11 students do internal assessments which receive accreditation towards the BTEC qualification.
