This morning, our Year 9 and KS4 Art students had the incredible opportunity to meet internationally established sculptor, Johannes von Stumm, in a truly inspiring session. Johannes, who lives and works in Oxfordshire, is celebrated for his innovative sculptures that blend materials such as metal, stone, and glass. His unique artistic style has earned him public and critical acclaim worldwide.
Johannes shared not only his remarkable body of work but also his personal journey as an artist, offering valuable insights into the creative process and what it takes to build a career in the arts. Our students were captivated as he discussed his artistic philosophy and the challenges he has faced along the way. His passion for his craft was evident and deeply inspiring, leaving the students in awe of both his sculptures and his journey.
One of the highlights of the visit was the interactive Q&A session, where students had the chance to ask Johannes questions about his work, materials, and experiences. It was clear from the thoughtful questions and keen interest in his responses that our students were fully engaged. Johannes was thoroughly impressed with their curiosity and motivation, commenting on the exceptional quality of their work and their enthusiasm for art.
The atmosphere in Wykham Theatre was electric—so much so that you could have heard a pin drop during the session, a true testament to how captivated the students were by his words and artwork.
We are grateful to Johannes for taking the time to share his knowledge and experiences with our students. His visit was a reminder of the power of art to inspire, challenge and transform, and we are certain that the students left with renewed creativity and motivation.
This visit marks another exciting chapter in our ongoing commitment to provide our students with opportunities to engage with leading artists and thinkers in the creative world. We look forward to seeing how the inspiration from today’s session will influence the students’ own artistic journeys.
