At Wykham Park our science course for years 7 and 8 sparks students’ curiosity in science, whilst gradually building the maths, literacy, practical, and enquiry skills needed for progression to AQA GCSE Science. Support and extension is provided to help students achieve and exceed in their science education.

WHAT ARE WE STUDYING

The final term begins with a study of Genes, how Variation arises within a population and also Human Reproduction. We finish year 7 looking at Matter and how the Particle model can be used when explaining chemical reactions.

WHAT ARE WE STUDYING

In our final term we investigate Matter what elements are made up of and how to read and interpret the Periodic table. We finish year 8 with a focus on Organisms studying different types of Cells and how they become specialised to their function.

WHAT ARE WE STUDYING

Students will begin their GCSE course by looking at the foundations of the sciences, Cells, Atoms and Energy then building on this to develop their scientific thinking and skills throughout the year.

WHAT ARE WE STUDYING

Students will be building on their core knowledge from year 9 to apply the scientific concepts to different topics. These include Rates of Reaction, Homeostasis and the electromagnetic spectrum.

Students will be revising in preparation for practice paper 1 exams in Biology, Chemistry and Physics. We will then use the feedback from these papers to put further intervention in place to prepare them for their GCSE exams in the Summer.
